Mountains of Kush: The Essential Guide to Kush Cannabis Strains

Grown in Hindu Kush Mountain, Kush strains of cannabis were extensively used by ancient Afghan people. Kush is a naturally occurring plant in both Afghanistan and Pakistan. The original strain is concentrated near the Hindu-Kush Mountains, which also explains the meaning behind the Kush Cannabis strain, it is based off it’s originally recorded native location! The environment that cannabis grows in for long periods of time can actually effect the taste, quality, and terpenoid/flavonoid content. Terpenoids and Flavonoids are primarily known for bringing in the fruity and lemony tastes and smells into different cannabis strains.

Kush belongs tends to be indica dominant, and offer a couch-lock type feeling of relaxation, but commonly the Kush strains are hybrids. It is most known for its combination of earthly fragrance and euphoric pleasure. Kush had a very distinct genealogy and is limited to a particular strain. However, after its popularity grew in various international markets, we developed different relative strains from breeding the Kush. Introduced to the United States in the mid 70’s, Kush cannabis (and its associating strains) has managed to generate a sizeable fan following here.

Kush plants are of medium height and thick in the foundation. Unlike sativa, which are tall and thin, they have a slight shade of purple color. They also have dense, dark buds. The tiny orange hairs pop against the dark green/purple buds. This is the characteristic that makes the strain most identifiable.

Taste of Kush Cannabis:

Kush is earthy in flavor, and the smoke or vapor is smooth and herbaceous. Although apart from the original flavor the Kush cannabis strain can be mixed with various strains. Recently, we have flavors like Mango Kush or Citrus Kush that bring lawyers to the flavor profile. They are not overly sweet. Instead, they add a pop of citrus to the mellow mix.

Kush Fragrance:

Maybe the best part of Kush is its smell. Most describe it has a citrus-pine aroma. However, as suggested earlier, this Kush cannabis can be grown with strains from other plants and hybrids to create even more fragrant buds. This fantastic fragrance can range from herbs and grasses to peppery-citrus and or earthy flowers.

Common Effects of Kush:

The effect of Kush cannabis can vary, depending upon whether it is a hybrid type or an indica dominant. If the variant is a Dominant Indica Kush, then it offers a deep effect on your body. Usually, these types of plants provide a deep sedative stage. Because of effects like these, Kush cannabis serve well for meditative and medicinal purposes. It’s most commonly used to treat anxiety, depression, and chronic pain.
