What is it like to Get High on Cannabis?

If you’ve never smoked cannabis before, and you’re wondering what it’s like to “Get High” then this article is for you. If you have gotten high, maybe this will give you the feels because of memories and such. We’ll let you decide!

Being High: Is it all in your head?

The psychoactive properties of THC are the direct cause for the “high” feeling that you get when you intake cannabis. They are a real chemical reaction within your brain as it absorbs the THC and THC byproducts. Researchers used to believe that the high was caused by an influx of dopamine, similar to other pleasure-inducing drugs, but a 2015 study by Kings College London found that there is “little direct evidence to suggest that cannabis use affects acute striatal dopamine release or affects  chronic dopamine receptor status in healthy human volunteers.”

So, if dopamine isn’t the answer to our inquiry to the source of the high, then perhaps it’s something else. That something else possibly relates to the way that cannabinoids like THC bind to the bodies CB1 receptors. It just so happens that a related cannabinoid, found naturally inside of our bodies, called Anandamide, binds to the CB1 receptor to produce feelings of bliss, joy, and euphoria. The very word Anandamide comes from the ancient Sanskrit phrase “ananda” which means “joy” or “bliss”

Even if you’re pulled over by the cops and you’re high af and the weed is right there on the dash and the pipe is in your hand and the blunt is in the ashtray and the dog is barking, don’t freak out. Breathe. The high will go away, jail has food, and dogs are soft and furry.
